Electric Side Dish Moves Forward

Recording a full length album is a long process that takes time, dedication and money. After some delays, the long-awaited Electric Side Dish LP Forward is being released. The last time the band was in the studio was way back in 2001 when they released Travelin’ and the band has since gone through some big changes. The most obvious are the adjustments in band members as guitarist and songwriter Phil Dudden is the only remaining member since 2001. Another significant transformation with the band has come stylistically. “The music has more of a global influence with Latin, Celtic and Afro-Caribbean rhythms,” explained percussionist John Bunting. “We’ve also grown intellectually,” added guitarist and song writer John Tipton. “This album is a more mature, grown up and serious version of our music. We’ve all grown as people and we take music a lot more seriously than we did before.”

So what was the best part of the recording process?  “Getting the whole thing finished,” laughed Tipton. “We had some set-backs, but we got through it.  Working with the guys in the band: Fleeb, Bunting, Mikey and Phil - these guys are solid and it’s awesome working with them.” “A great part of the process is how we’ve collaborated on the development of the material and also through communication of ideas for the whole album,” said Bunting.

Some of the highlights of Forward are the special guests: singer Tori Pater, drummer Chadzilla and keyboardist CR Gruver all of Polytoxic, vocalist Miles Guzman of Stanky Pockets, and vocalist Gene Crout of America Gomorrah. Gene Crout is also owner of Audio Digital Enterprises in Arvada, Colorado where the album was recorded.  The band has been in the studio for just about a year, so they’ve all spent some quality time with their engineer and producer Crout. It only seems natural that he would be included on the album.

Electric Side Dish will be throwing an album release party on December 16 at the Paramount Café at 9pm and admission is free. Included in the line-up will be the special guest musicians that appear on the album as well as other surprise guests. Be sure to stop by, give the guys a well deserved pat on the back and boogie down to original crowd favorites “Forward,” “Mama Chains” and “River” as well as some tasty covers. CDs and T-shirts will also be available.
