Industry Profile: Audio Digital Studio
When a band wants to record an album they have a few options. The do-it-yourself route with a laptop and a plethora of home studio software is appealing but can be tricky if the band isn’t solid with the details of recording and production. Going to a studio might be a daunting first-time experience but with a skillful engineer behind the wheel the overall product will be polished and professional. A studio that has experience of recording local and national artists, mixing and mastering television broadcasts, recording radio and television commercials as well as mixing for feature films is right here in our area: Audio Digital Studio located in Arvada, Colorado.
Audio Digital is owned and operated by composer, engineer, and producer Gene Crout. It helps when the engineer is a musician and Gene is no exception. After earning his B.M. in music theory and composition from the University of Miami’s School of Music, Crout’s general interest in computers blossomed into audio production and editing in the mid 1990s. Gene opened Audio Digital Studio in June 1997 and has supplied original music, audio production, computer and audio consulting and graphic design services to many clients including Jones Educational Media, Harcourt College Publishers and Dryden Online, KRMT TV 41 and Daystar Television among many others. Gene also has experience in television and radio and film production for such clients as Columbia TriStar Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Outdoor Life Network, Warner Bros. and more.
The digital audio production facility specializes in editing, mixing and mastering from the solo artist to a full band. Gene’s production proficiency can be heard on a number of albums including his own band’s release Exchanging Truth for a Lie by America Gomorrah and on productions of Phil Keaggy, Some Random Band, Stanky Pockets, Home, Stoned Emotion, Electric Side Dish, Roe, Luther-N, Stephanie Ault, Swamp Koolers, and Vertical Alignment. Since 2000 Gene says “it’s been a steady stream of bands - tracking, mixing and mastering - with corporate and broadcast audio work mixed in.”
Gene has a love of music that he is sharing with all that come through his studio. “There is really nothing that I love doing more than producing awesome sounding music, and I really love helping artists bring their musical dreams and visions to reality,” said a very busy Gene via an email interview. “It is the mission of Audio Digital to provide our clients with the highest level of production quality and customer service for a reasonable rate. We take every project seriously and it is our desire for every client to leave satisfied and happy. Our goal is to make every project we do better than the last one. We are constantly striving to improve not only our equipment and studio but our techniques and skill set. Customer and personal satisfaction are our #1 goal. We make sure every commercial project we do can stand side by side with ‘Big Labels’ and ‘the Nationals’.” Audio Digital provides state-of-the-art technology and the studio consists of the main control room with up to five discrete areas of isolation. Gene “recently did some ‘acoustical renovation’ of my control room and my drum tracking room,” and is over-hauling the official studio website as well. In addition to his studio prowess Gene also offers private musical instruction in the areas of guitar, bass, music theory, songwriting, studio production and more. If students have a webcam and broadband access they may take lessons over the web without ever leaving their home. Please visit the site for a full list of studio hardware and software, lesson information and to see what Gene can do for your band.
